Understanding Your Aurora Energy Bill After Installing Solar

After installing solar, your Aurora Energy bill will look different. Understanding what’s changed helps you gauge whether your system is performing as expected.

Your bill will show two key figures related to solar: the amount of electricity you imported from the grid, and the amount of solar electricity you exported. The difference between your pre-solar and post-solar import figure represents your self-consumption — the solar energy you used directly.

You’ll receive a credit for your exported energy at the feed-in tariff rate. This credit is applied against your bill, reducing the total amount owed.

It’s worth noting that your daily supply charge remains the same regardless of how much solar you generate. This is a fixed fee for being connected to the grid and cannot be offset by solar production.

To truly understand your system’s performance, compare your total solar generation (which you can monitor through your inverter app or monitoring platform) with your export and import figures. If your generation is high but your self-consumption is low, there may be opportunities to shift more of your usage to daylight hours.

Many Tasmanian solar owners find that their summer bills drop dramatically or even go into credit, while winter bills are reduced but not eliminated due to shorter days and higher heating demand.
